My love of books
It was the fall of my 6th grade year. We were sitting in “study hall” and Mrs. Highland announced to us that we were going to watch a scholastic book trailer video on the ancient dinosaur of a television which was perched high up on a rolling cart. Of course, being the nerd I am, I got really excited to watch this because I love to read. Mrs. Highland pops the VHS into the player and presses play. Unsurprisingly, one of the new Harry Potter books was the first teaser trailer to be shown, which I had no interest in whatsoever at the time. The class talks excitedly about JKR’s new book while I’m sitting bored with my hand under my chin. A few chick flick books progress and I almost lost hope in the video that eventually helped me find my new favorite books. But then, all of a sudden, a new trailer comes on. It begins with a futuristic view of the world in a thousand years… People alter themselves when they turn 16 to become “Pretty.” Tally Youngblood is the protagonist who leads her life wanting desperately to become pretty, until one day she realizes it may not be all it’s cracked up to be. Of course you can probably already guess which dystopian novel I’m speaking of. But in case you did not know it’s “Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld. This one little trailer introduced me to my first favorite series, my first favorite author, and my first favorite book genre (dystopias, romance, futuristic storyline, fantasy, etc.). Scott Westerfeld to this day is still my favorite author and I have yet to find another series that even holds a candle to the sheer awesomeness that is the “Uglies” series. So yeah, I’ve always loves books.

I’m going to have dreams of photo montages of Ingrid, Kristina, and Luke with background music of All Caps in the background… Or Ministry of Magic… … … I really need to go to bed.
